This PDF crochet pattern describes in US terms how to crochet a classic London Taxi, also known as a Black Cab, as shown in pictures, including all of the specific details. The finished size will be approx. 8.7” (22 cm) long, 5.1” (13 cm) tall, 4.5” (11,5 cm) wide, crocheted using sport weight cotton yarn and hook size C (2,5 mm).
This pattern is also suitable for wool or acrylic yarn. The Black Cab in the pictures was made using sport weight cotton yarn by SMC - Schachenmayr Catania.
If you wish to make a larger or smaller version of this car, you can just use thicker or thinner yarn and a matching size crochet hook. In this case, you will need different amounts of yarn and different sized buttons and plastic canvas, than stated in the materials list.
Gauge: is not important for this pattern, just crochet tight enough so the stuffing will not show through the stitches.

- Fiberfill stuffing, preferably a sturdy kind, 2 pearl buttons, diameter approx. 0.7” (1,8 cm)
- Plastic canvas (7” mesh) 1 sheet approx. 13.5“ x 10.3“ (34 x 26 cm)
- 2 Pieces of chenille wire or pipe cleaner, each approx. 11.8” (30 cm) long
- Stitch markers, tapestry needle, pins, measuring tape, scissors
- Optional: sewing thread in black or any matching colors
Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, surface slip stitches, increasing, decreasing, magic circle.
